British Values

At Kinsale Infant School we ensure that through our school vision, daily school life, relationships, values, rules, curriculum and teaching we promote tolerance and respect for all cultures, faiths and life styles. We introduce the fundamental British Values, as it is our duty to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and to keep them safe.

We encourage admissions from all those entitled to education under British Law regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, financial or political status. We are a school for ALL.

The Government defines British Values as the Values of

  • Democracy
  • The Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance of those of different Faiths and Beliefs

As well as actively promoting British Values, the opposite also applies: we would actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British Values, including ‘extremist’ views.

The term ‘British Values’ might be slightly misleading in that these values are integral to so many countries throughout the world – they differ in no way from the values of most western European countries, for example.
