‘Blended Learning’ – Our remote offer during Covid-19

2020/2021

‘Blended Learning’ is the plan we have put in place for additional work for the children to do if they have to stay at home to self-isolate due to Covid-19.

As you are aware, there may well be a time when either an individual child or a whole ‘bubble’ is required to self-isolate at home (either while waiting for a Covid test result, or because there has been a positive test result in school).  Should either of these occur, providing your child is well enough, we ask you to support your child to learn at home, so that they can continue to make good progress.  We appreciate that should remote learning have to happen, many parents will also be working themselves at home.  This is of course a greater challenge. Any support you can offer your child will make a considerable difference.

Our plan for supporting with this Blended Learning is as follows:

  • If an individual child is required to isolate at home for a short time, we request that you use the Home Learning activities that have been provided.  You are encouraged to complete as many of these as you are able, and many can be repeated to ensure your child has fully grasped the skill.

Reception children do not routinely have Home Learning, but we emailed you suggested activity ideas on 30th September.  Please use these if isolating for a short time.

  • If a whole ‘bubble’ or individual is required to self-isolate for a longer period because there has been a positive case identified, we will be providing an alternative plan of remote learning.

Our plan:

We will be providing teaching and learning through Tapestry. This is an online learning platform that all families should be familiar with. Please make sure you are able to access it and speak to the class teacher or email the office if you cannot.

We will work to a set timetable every day to keep it consistent for your child.

The class teacher will begin with a short video which will prepare your child for the day ahead.

There will then be a teaching video for English, Maths, Phonics and one other curriculum area each day. They will also tell a story for the children to listen to.

All the videos will be pre-recorded, so you can pause and stop them if you need to, in order to fit in with your child’s day. The teacher will add any resources that may support learning to the documents file on Tapestry. There is a guide on our school website to demonstrate how to use Tapestry to ensure you can all access the learning.

Your child will be asked to complete some activities to practice the skills taught and then you will be asked to take a photo and upload one piece of work a day for the teacher to give feedback on via Tapestry.

If you need to contact the class teacher during this time with any questions we will be using the year group emails:

reception@kinsaleinfant.norfolk.sch.uk

year1@kinsaleinfant.norfolk.sch.uk

year2@kinsaleinfant.norfolk.sch.uk

They will be monitored during the day between 10am and 4pm. These email accounts will not be in use unless a bubble is in isolation.

Your child will receive one phone call from the teacher during their long period of isolation to discuss how their learning is progressing and to provide us with feedback.
